Meet JoAnne Disken

I have a BS in Physical Education from Ithaca College and a Masters in Health Education.  So you ask-Why are you a Professional Developer integrating technology into the classroom? I just love anything to do with technology-computers, personal digital assistants (PDAs), surfing the web, etc. This led me to earn an advanced degree in Computers in Education from New York Institute of Technology. My 10 year experience as a Computer Coordinator in a private school was most challenging. I was in charge of everything related to technology.  I am starting my fourth year as a Professional Developer primarily in the East Meadow School District training teachers how to infuse technology into the curriculum. This is done by modeling and creating meaningful learning experiences that are based on N Y State Standards. Teachers acquire new skills and ideas that they can use to create exciting lessons or add spice to current ones that help prepare students for the 21st century. I have conducted numerous Nassau BOCES Model School workshops and will be giving on-line courses. I am implementing the use of PDAs along with developing lessons to be used in the classroom.  To keep on top of this ever changing field, I attend many workshops and trainings for my own professional growth.  I recently became certified as a Palm Education Training Coordinator (PETC) and was a lead trainer at NYTALKS in Brooklyn and Queens in New York for school administrators and principals.  I serve as an adjunct instructor at Molloy College teaching a graduate technology course. When not on the computer exploring the web, I love spending time with my family,  working on my golf game and traveling.
